Biography
Rebecca Poole-Heyne was born in Castine, Maine in 1956, and is a fourth generation Brooksville native. She attended Nova Scotia College of Art and Design in Halifax, NS Canada and San Francisco Art Institute during the late 70’s.
These formative years were rich with influential artist/teachers including Eric Fischl, Mira Schor, Bob Berlin, John Baldessari, and Ed Porter. During her time at the SFAI, she studied color photography with Hank Wessel. These influences still strongly guide her artistic direction today.
After raising several children in their small house in Brooksville, Bec returned to the studio and became an art teacher in two elementary schools on the peninsula for the last decade.
Photography and painting remain vital media for her current work. Landscape is, however, a newer theme and one that holds powerful emotional pulls. Growing up poor in rural Maine, she sought the landscape as a place of peace, refuge, and hope as a child. Returning to the landscape with her dogs during this pandemic, has opened a door to the remnants of old emotions which have been poignant and powerful.
